have just the answer for them. A simple story of what unfolds when a maid, for
60years to a family, decides to retire into an old age home. She has taken care
of generations in this family. The love & gratitude by everyone towards her for that seems more than justified.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
There is an instant connection to both the lead characters
and I loved them in no time, it was like a story about someone I knew, which
isn't far from the reality for anyone I guess. We all had/have a person in our
lives who has spoilt us taking such good care growing up and towards whom we
have an undying gratitude for it. The choices these characters make seem so
unreelistic, so grounded & difficult that you almost forget it’s a movie.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

The intent and presentation is so so honest, I doubt anyone
could go untouched by it. It’s one of those rare gems that come and go without
much hoopla and when you watch it years later by accident you wonder "How
come I never heard of this one?". If you are in Chicago it’s playing at a
modest, old school, single screen theatre called "<a href="http://www.facets.org/pages/cinematheque/cinematheque.php" target="_blank">FacetsCinematheque</a>", it’s worth watching it there if you ask me. It’s a
wonderful movie with an amazing story. It’s a BEAUTIFUL movie.</div>

<br />
Christopher Nolan. This name comes with a promise. A promise to all movie watchers to make the best of the movies. Breaking all the shackles and overcoming all the apprehension, Nolan has created many cinematic marvels with his work.<br />
<br />
He was at the helm of the project when Warner Bros. decided to reboot the Batman franchise. With his unique take on the origin story and following it up with one of the best superhero movies made, Nolan showed how superhero movies could exist in a real world. He took away all luxuries and super powers away from Bruce Wayne reducing him to a real world protagonist with a will to fight against the evil. The first two stories have not just been well told but also have been presented with characters that have left an equal mark if not more than Batman himself. Heath Ledger's Joker will be remembered as one of the best ever. Michael Caine as Alfred is Bruce's real world connection and keeps him rooted. Similarly, Rachel, Commissioner Gordon, Harvey Dent and so many other characters from these movies were so well etched.<br />
<br />
So, the final chapter in the trilogy has been quite a wait. Nolan can be well trusted to give a fitting finale to the Caped crusader's saga. <br />

<u>Original Music</u><br />
<br />
Hans Zimmer had teamed up with James Newton Howard to compose music for the first two movies. He also worked with Nolan on Inception. All 3 movies had , what now is referred to as iconic score. In the process, Zimmer secured an Oscar nomination for his work in Inception.<br />
<br />
So, it was all but obvious that music for this movie would be special. Whatever one got to hear in the trailer was immensely comforting to know that Zimmer has hit the bullseye again.<br />
<br />
The complete score was posted by the EMPIRE magazine sometime ago and the music has to be the best work done by Zimmer so far. <br />
<br />
You can listen to the score on the EMPIRE website by clicking <a href="http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=34498" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />
<br />
<br />
<u>Bottomline(s)</u><br />
<br />
Along with the humongous expectations, there are also a few questions bugging the fans since the second movie came out. Will Nolan be able to create a bigger spectacle than 'The Dark Knight' ? Will Tom Hardy's Bane be able to create a monster as big as, if not bigger than the Joker ? Will this movie make this one of the best trilogies ever ? <br />
<br />
To find the answers to these and many other questions, catch 'The Dark Knight Rises' at a theatre near you from 20-July onwards.<br />

<br />
In last few years, every movie that Anurag Kashyap is associated with, has made a lot cine-goers excited. He and few others have given a new shape and direction to the Indie cinema. Many of the movies directed by him and the ones coming from his banner are now cult in nature. This in turn has made his loyal fans(including yours truly) wait for his every release with bated breath.<br />
<br />
His last offering as a director, 'The Girl in Yellow Boots' wasn't appreciated as much as few of his earlier movies were. So, this adds more to the anxiety associated with 'Gangs of Wasseypur'.<br />
<br />
<u>Release Date</u> : 22 - June - 2012<br />
<br />
<u>Synopsis</u> : Towards the end of colonial India, Shahid Khan loots the British trains, impersonating the legendary Sultana Daku. Now outcast, Shahid becomes a worker at Ramadhir Singh's colliery, only to spur a revenge battle that passes on to generations. At the turn of the decade, Shahid's son, the philandering Sardar Khan vows to get his father's honor back, becoming the most feared man of Wasseypur. Staying true to its real life influences, the film explores this revenge saga through the socio-political dynamic in erstwhile Bihar (North India), in the coal and scrap trade mafia of Wasseypur, through the imprudence of a place obsessed with mainstream 'Bollywood' cinema. <u>Music</u><br />
<br />
Sneha Khanwalkar made a mark with her music for movies like 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!' and 'Love Sex Dhokha'. She was credited to be one of the most imaginative and innovative of the current crop of music composers. She further enhanced her reputation by her show on Mtv, 'Sound Trippin'.<br />
<br />
So, people were really curious to see what she packed in the album for this movie. All the more because 'Gangs of Wasseypur' was always said to be a musical. She did not disappoint anyone. Aided by the brilliant lyrics of extremely talented Varun Grover and the maestro Piyush Mishra, she has composed few of the brilliant songs one has heard in the last decade or so. Songs that are so apt for the theme of the movie and yet so mesmerizing if you even consider this solely as a music album.<br />
<br />
Songs like 'Jiya Ho', 'O Womaniya' and 'Keh Ke Loonga' among others are so rich musically and are so well written that one feels like the repeat button on the music players was made for these kind of songs.<br />
<br />
(Cutting it short with a hint of sadness that this music deserved one full post on its own merits)<br />
<br />
<br />
<u>Controversies</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>The movie was in the news during its shooting because of a freak accident that resulted in the death of Sohil Shah who was the AD on the shoot. It must have been difficult for the crew to overcome this tragic event and complete the shooting of the movie.</li>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Reports were out stating that the Kashyap was at loggerheads with Censor board when they asked him to put a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie that it is a work of fiction. It turned out that this wasn't true when Kashyap and the producers clarified that there were no issues with censor board.</li>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>It was reported in the media that the locals of Wasseypur were unhappy with the use of their city's name and also the way they could have been portrayed in the movie. The makers came out in their own defense stating that this report was untrue and there was no issue like this.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<u>Bottomline(s)</u><br />
<u><br /></u><br />
Gangs of Wasseypur was thoroughly appreciated when it was screened at Cannes Film Festival as part of the Critics week.Indian audience will finally get to watch the movie in less than a week from now. Going by all the trailers and the positive words coming from Cannes and other screenings, it does seem like Anurag Kashyap has made a good movie. We can't wait to watch it and can't wait to hear what Indian audience will think of it.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Carlos Escobar was the world’s most
dreaded drug lord from Medellin. Andres Escobar was a gifted and loved Columbian
football defender. Fate crossed their paths and tragedy ensued. 1970’s was a
time when Columbia was a shining example of social inequality where the rich
grew richer and poor were left to rot. This created a perfect setup for crime
and young Carlos took it upon himself to steal from the rich. Coming from a
poverty ridden family he couldn’t bear to see how the rich never gave anything
back to help the society, stealing from them was the only right path he could
think of. What started with car thefts moved on to Kidnapping and finally drug trafficking.
He went on to become one of the wealthiest men in the world and the most feared
druglord there was.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Andres Escobar was a soft
spoken, shy by nature football played hailing from Medellin, fondly nicknamed as
the “Gentleman of Football” by fans. Started his pro career with playing for <span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b><span style="font-size: x-small;">Atlético Nacional</span> </b></span>at 18, went on to
captain his national team which was then at its very peak. He was loved by the Columbian
people and commanded respect from players. Always the one to think how football
can heal the society he lived in, how it can grow to be more than just a game.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Carlos had his own way of giving
back, other than slaughtering his rivals and channelling 80% of the world’s
cocaine at that time, he helped the poor by fulfilling their basic needs and
nurturing football at grassroots. He had a deep love for football and this led him
to pump money into initially creating football grounds for locals to later
funding Atletico Nacional team, team for which Andres played, which in turn
served as a perfect cover for his drug money laundering operation. Eventually
Carlos grew so big with drugs that the world, especially US DEA, took notice
and started a hunt for his head by calling for his extradition.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: 36.0pt;">
The documentary goes on to say how these two people completely unrelated
by blood, nature or what they represented to the world had an effect on others
lives in the most unthinkable ways. How what started as a totally unrelated
incident resulted in the death of people who had nothing to do with it, along
with ones who did, and also the death of a country’s passion and hope. A
brilliant documentary which keeps the viewer engrossed in a story that seems so
unreal and completely scripted.</div>

Quite a few teen comedies have been a part of the pop culture in the last few decades. But, 'American Pie' stands out. People loved the movie and laughed their guts out at the way Jim(Jason Biggs) made a jackass out of himself or how Stifler(Sean William Scott) walked around being a jerk pissing others off and lots of other hilarious characters/scenes. The 2 movies that followed were good too and then the series lost the plot.<br />
<br />
They have now tried to get their act together with the basic story revolving around the reunion of the familiar faces that made the first 3 movies tick. They bank on nostalgia and come up with this movie that carries the mood forward.<br />
<br />
All the 5 central characters, Jim, Stifler, Oz(Chris Klein), Kevin(Thomas Nicholas) and Finch(Eddie Thomas) are now approaching middle age and are dealing with their own issues in their respective lives. A high school reunion sounds like a perfect getaway for them to meet friends who made their high school lives memorable. Add Michelle(Alyson Hannigan), Vicky(Tara Reid), Heather(Mena Suvari), Eugene Levy(Jim's Dad), the ever so popular Jennifer Coolidge (Stifler's Mom) and what follows is a fun ride.<br />
<br />
All the characters are instantly relatable due to the connect that the audience has with the series. But, it is Stifler who makes you yearn for more movies of this sort. He is,like always, an obnoxious and irritating character but everything that he says or does evokes a chuckle or a laugh, for sure.<br />
<br />
They start off with memories of their lives shown in the first 3 movies and the events constantly keep relating to those movies. So, this movie is not a bad watch for anyone who liked those movies even a bit.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;"> Movies about silent era are always charming. This movie oozed honesty and did justice to the thought that the script dealt with. It stands tall among the movies that come out in 2011. It dealt with emotions and comedy like not many other movies have ever done. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> <u>Did you know</u> : Near the beginning of the film, Clooney's character says "I don't want my daughters growing up entitled and spoiled. And I agree with my father: you give your children enough money to do something but not enough to do nothing". This is actually a paraphrase from one of the world's wealthiest men, and the richest person in the world in 2008, Warren Buffett. In reference to how much money he would bequeath to his children, Buffett replied: "I want to give my kids just enough so that they would feel that they could do anything, but not so much that they would feel like doing nothing." </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> Total nominations received : </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> <u>Total nominations received</u> : 5</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> <u>Our prediction</u> : Looked set to win it but 'The Artist' may take the award away.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> Panned universally by every major critic, this movie was a surprise nominee. <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> Based on a novel, the movie dealt with the horror that the Afro-American community went through in the 1960s. A brave and aspiring author decides to document all the troubles that the community was going through. A gritty movie that was very well directed and acted. It was certain to be nominated for the major categories and the academy duly honoured it.</span><br />
<u><br />

Whatever Marty does, there is a master touch to that. Scorsese's first 3D film had surely raised everyone's expectations. The movie didn't disappoint. It was delightful and touching tale of a kid trying to understand his late father's mechanical creation wandering around the train station in Paris. 3D was used like never before and it pleased the audiences everywhere. A deserving nomination!<br />
<u><br />
</u></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> <u>Did you know</u> : After a screening that James Cameron attended, he called the film a "masterpiece" and told Martin Scorsese it was the best use of 3D he had seen, including his own films. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> <u>Total nominations received</u> : 11</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> <u>Our prediction</u> : Has garnered a lot of praise from the academy but chances are not great</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<b><span style="color: #134f5c;">BOTTOM LINES :</span></b> This list seems incomplete without movies like 50/50, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Margin Call and Drive. The academy got it wrong there but these 9 were the movies that got the final nod. Academy can do something right now and not spring another surprise by awarding an undeserving movie. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"> </span><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="text-align: left; white-space: pre;"> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Courtesy </b>: Youtube and IMDB</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div></div></div>Movie Hystericshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04848803443098245712noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-291768299546873622.post-48953477452604278922012-02-20T12:37:00.000+05:302012-02-20T12:37:00.516+05:30The Woman In Black : Scary<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK1vsQ46xZ21o5vyQFeaDZrXiEoszT3dEafzEOzZa4jiDauia_JPigxqGliQGD5DO4nNoEHJsSn7izYkD388Cw-Ph2sAWXNGn5LqRxcT5VaRdVO_TjkkQandcEO9LdrJxmm4w0hQqU4QA/s1600/photo_12_small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="163" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK1vsQ46xZ21o5vyQFeaDZrXiEoszT3dEafzEOzZa4jiDauia_JPigxqGliQGD5DO4nNoEHJsSn7izYkD388Cw-Ph2sAWXNGn5LqRxcT5VaRdVO_TjkkQandcEO9LdrJxmm4w0hQqU4QA/s320/photo_12_small.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal"> It’s been a while since a good horror movie has hit the screen. Many "horror" movies these days just show blood in the name of horror. The Woman in Black does manage to scare you without much bloodshed. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"> The stage is set in the 19th century England. Arthur Kipps a lawyer who is working hard to make his ends meet in London, has a son to raise, and has come to terms with wife passing away. So to save his job, he moves to a small village in England to sort out the papers of an isolated mansion of a deceased mentally challenged woman. Once inside the mansion Kipps sees the spirits. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"> The movie is well shot. The country side looks really beautiful. The mansion itself looks very spooky and scary . Everything about the mansion will make you feel its haunted. There are a few genuinely scary moments. So if you are going to watch it, be ready to jump out of the seats. There are good surprises. The sound effects are particularly good. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"> The Woman in Black has nothing new that you have not see before, but it’s done with conviction. Daniel Radcliffe gets out of Harry Potter mode into an adult character. If you have been a fan a of Harry Potter series, it will be hard for you see him play a dad, as you will still see him as a “boy”. But he does justice to his character and you will actually feel sorry for him.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"> Over all The Woman in Black is good. It manages to make you jump out of your seats. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

One of the most cherishing moments in such movies were not the mustanda exchanges between Hero and the Villian fist,punch in the stomach fight sequences but the confrontation scenes, where </span><span style="line-height: 115%;"><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UOdVei_m_k&feature=related">one could take a dig at each other .</a> </span><span style="line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></span><br />
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">So if I ask when was the last time we saw a hard core negative character, who enjoyed playing the Evil ,*stylishly* delegated tasks to his subordinates to wipe out the Good, by keeping a check on Hero’s lady of her whereabouts, and the one who created his own world with Wines and Women. I say None. Last couple of years saw none of these elements in any characters. Prakash Raj even with his spontaneity could only portray hyperactive roles in Wanted, Buddha Hoga Tera Baap and Singham. SRK’s proclamation of his negative character in Don2 is farcical to say the least. Even Sanjay Dutt got an opportunity in Aladdin, but with little screen space and meat. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Hence Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of Kancha Cheena in 2012 becomes the only hope to get back to those characters. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />

But in the bigger picture it fails to strike the chord. Here’s how. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 21px;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 21px;">Karan Malhotra’s version of revenge drama is not a remake to start with. The basic idea of the movie remains the same, but then so much has been tweaked that in an attempt to make an original, it ends up spineless and heartless, with over the top drama. An absolute tripe compared to the original. Even if it’s not compared with the Mukul Anand’s version it presents us with all the clichés of Karan Johar movies that we are so familiar with. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;">Mukul Anand’s version which now has got a huge following because of Amitabh’s swagger and then infamous voice (Inspired after Marlon Brando’s character in Godfather) is not only about Vijay Dinanath Chauhan’s retribution against businessman Kancha Cheena. Its also about a boy’s rise from the alleys of Mandwa to the Godfather of Mumbai. But in Karan’s version Vijay ends up as a Godfather of a local slum called Dongri, which later is turned into a K3G’s Yash Raichand’s family function, much to the liking of Karan Johar’s audience.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><a href="http://im.rediff.com/movies/2012/jan/24sli2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="219" src="http://im.rediff.com/movies/2012/jan/24sli2.jpg" width="320" /></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"> Many feel that the performances in the original were over-dramatic. Be it Vijay’s arrogance while flaunting his appointment with death, or his fumbling of words while conversing with officer Gaitonde or scaring shit out of his partners in crime, Amitabh did it all effortlessly. But was it Dramatic ? Yes. But if we have liked and followed him in Hum and others, then there’s no reason why we shouldn’t admire him here. One cannot find such instances in the newer version at all. In fact there isn’t a memorable scene which would make you stand up and shower <i>seetis</i>. One of the important aspects of the original version was the “action-packed” dialogues viz Kancha Cheena’s favourite “Jo daayan haath karta hain , bayein haath ko pata nahi chalna chahiye, Yeh humara usool hai” and my favourite </span><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XZuack4nJ8"><span style="line-height: 115%;">“Jala Daala .. “.</span></a><span style="line-height: 115%;"> But then there isn’t a single line which provides such fun. </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;">Instead it tries to cover up by inducing 1st level of RGV’s violence and some basic twists which we have already seen a million times in RGV’s earlier movies . And all this happens with intense looking Hrithik Roshan at the center, void with any style. Hence delivering a plain and unimpressive performance compared to Amitabh.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.oneknightstands.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/kancha-cheena.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.oneknightstands.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/kancha-cheena.jpg" /></a></div><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> If there is any kohl-eyed moment in the newer version , then its Rishing Kapoor as Rauf Lala. A conniving Don who plans, plots and almost pin down Vijay Dinanath Chauhan , hence making it more delightful to watch. Lala’s is a culmination(or say replacement) of all 4 local gunda characters of the original one. It's a treat to watch him play Bad and is the only silver lining in this movie. Equally painful is to watch Kancha Cheena’s character with the Sanjay Dutt‘s “Isko Bolte trigger” repetitive look from Vaastav. Neither he is wild and funny as Amrish Puri in Mr.India and Vishwatma or Jaichand in Farishtey, nor is he absolutely serious as Dr.Dang in Karma. </span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Unlike the clean , suave Danny Dengzopa the new Kancha has any logic and tries to impress audience with his constant eye-popping evil grins.</span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 21px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 21px;">Yet again an original is ruined.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 21px;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit; line-height: 21px;">And yet again the fandom for original increases.</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div><br />

<div><br />
</div><div> Ek Main Aur Ek Tu has all the typical ingredients of the regular RomCom and is very predictable. Rahul, an architect meets Riana, a free lance Hajaam ( Hair Dresser) in Las Vegas . Rahul has controlling parents - Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah , while Riana is “live in the moment” type of a character. They get drunk one night and get married . They decidoo to annul the marriage, that is when they realise that they get along very well. </div><div><br />
The movie unfolds with a few funny moments when the couple gets to know each other. There are moments where the humor falls down. Even though the movie is predictable with all the standard ingredients that go into RomCom, you will feel a connect with its characters. But the movie ends on a more mature note than the other regular RomComs , which will come as a good surprise. <br />
<br />
Imran Khan gets into the Rahul’s character very well. Including an emotional scene where Riana takes Rahul to her school to show him around. Kareena Kapoor’s role is very much like her role in “Jab We Met” who encourages her counterpart to take life easy and have fun.She gives the movie energy with her bubbly performace. If you liked her in “Jab We Met” you will like her in this movie. Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah play their characters of a boring success minded business man and fashion obsessed woman with conviction. The music too strikes a note Amit Trivedi and Amitabh Bhattacharya having done a decent job. <br />
<br />
Overall the movie is good . Its engaging for most part and does not drag along for too long and has a different ending. </div><div><br />

<br />
For me, Yograj Bhat’s movies have changed the industry. Not just by dishing out quality and ‘different’ taste of cinema but also creating a platform for other moviemakers to think, to act and to make movies differently. Though there are still 100s of shit-old formulaic film makers around, it is heartening to see a bunch of directors and writers attempting something new and different, consciously.<br />
<br />
As part of the same renaissance , a young director who dropped out of his engineering course midway to pursue his movie dreams, made a movie named ’Lifeu Ishtene’ as his directorial debut and released it in 2011. Thanks to my absence from kannada-naadu, I wasn’t able to catch the movie at a theatre and was eagerly waiting to see it pop-up online. But, I was pleasantly surprised to see it being made available online legally and in pretty decent time after its theatrical release. So, I went ahead and rented it. What follows next is my opinion about it.<br />
<br />
This movie is a story about Vishal(DIGANTH) who hopelessly falls in love with every other girl that he comes across. The movie starts with him being in a state of dejection after coming out from a failed relationship and gives us a glimpse of his unfortunate past. He then tries to steer himself away from another relationship only to realize that he can forget his past by only getting into another liaison. The story then talks about how the events give him a déjà-vu and how he deals with all that.<br />
<br />
Is the story new? Maybe not. Is the treatment fresh? Definitely yes. Any story that is told in an unconventional way and/or with a heart deserves attention. This movie scores at both the points. It’s a very good script that the director Pawan Kumar works with and does total justice to it. He uses simple but at the same time pretty clever lines throughout the movie. Pawan works with a great team and ensures every department adds a touch of quality to the final product. Manomurthy, Jayant Kaikini and Yograj Bhat are at their usual best and I loved the songs contrary to many people’s voice these days that they are getting repetitive. Good things and classy stuff, my friends, can never get repetitive. The camera work by Sugnana is impressive and the good work is pretty hard to miss. Smart editing and very good use of background score make the narration interesting.<br />
<br />
Digant is brilliant in his role as the gloomy and disappointed character hoping to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Veena Sundar and Achyut Kumar playing the roles of his parents are very good and are amazingly spontaneous in their performances. The actresses, Samyuktha Horanadu and Sindhu Lokanath are impressive in their first outings and give good performaces but get overshadowed by Digant’s show. Ninsasam Satish is a treat in his role as Digant’s friend constantly showing him a mirror to make him understand what he does. The best thing about this movie is that there are no ‘why wasn’t this scene chopped at editing table’ scenes! This makes for a pretty tight story-telling but still doesn’t leave any gaping holes in the plot.<br />
<br />
This movie is no candy-floss entertainment! It is realistic and sincere in its depiction of characters and relationships. The director succeeds to convey the message of learning from the past and letting things go. May what you do, the end can never be planned. Do everything with a heart and believe in good things that happen to you.<br />
<br />
It’s good that this movie was made. It’s even better that it was liked. We need more and more movies like this one. We need a lot more young filmmakers to get inspired by the new wave. The age old divide between the so-called commercial cinema and art cinema should get bridged. All good movies should get attention and must be praised instead of being classified as mainstream and art.<br />
<br />
Watch this movie and embrace the good and honest side of kannada cinema!!<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> Sherlock Holmes was always a great character to be portrayed on the big screen. The literature associated with Holmes has a great following. One of the most intriguing characters ever, even more so in the crime genre. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So, when Guy Ritchie got into a risky endeavour of making a movie adaptation of this popular piece literature that could have gotten a lot of Holmes fans pissed had he gone wrong with his movie. But, he did a good job and made a good movie. Not flawless but a well made movie.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This emphasized the need for his second movie in the series to succeed and surpass the quality of the first movie. So, has he been able to accomplish that? Yes, kind of!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr) is still an arrogant and self absorbed being. Dr.Watson (Jude Law) has now decided to get hitched and makes up the sub plot. Meanwhile, an extremist group is trying to destabilize the European continent by planning a series of bomb explosions across geography. Holmes has already decided to unravel the conspiracy and is trying to expose Prof.Moriarty (Jared Harris) who he thinks is probably the master mind behind all the unfortunate events. It turns out that Holmes is right in his suspicions and Morirarty has an evil plan behind the explosions. During their effort to explore the matter, they meet Simza Haron (Noomi Rapace),a gypsy who is deeply entwined with the events but is unaware of it. She accompanies Holmes and Watson on their journey to get to the crux of the matter and investigate the case. They transcend geographical boundaries to go across Europe and get into dangerous and life threatening situations but eventually succeeding in their mission to stop this whole operation run by Moriarty. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The games between Holmes and Moriarty are fun to watch and interesting all through. The actions and reactions are well written into the script and well acted out.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This movie is definitely a step ahead of the first one. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law give fascinating performances and look brilliant in their parts. Noomi Rapace does a good job in the extended cameo that she has and makes the audience feel that she should have got more screentime than what she actually did. Jared Harris is good too and stands tall in his performance. Guy Ritchie is extremely confident with his control over the narration and works with a tight script. Hanz Zimmer is in top form as always. His score adds further interesting feel to the proceedings.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The original story book loyalists may still feel a bit disgruntled with Guy Ritchie’s big screen adaptation. He does take a few creative liberties but I think Ritchie should be applauded in getting the story portrayed as real as it could have possibly been in an entertaining form. Not the best that Ritchie could do but ‘Sherlock Holmes- A Game of Dark Shadows’ is still more than being just worth a watch!</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> Spy thrillers are yummy to watch when they are done right. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is definitely a thriller but done very differently. It unfolds at its own sweet pace but is catchy from the word go till the last frame.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The movie starts with the killing of a Mark Strong, a spy who is in Hungary looking for information on a 'mole' in the British Intelligence agency who is passing on all the secrets to the Russians. The problem is that the ones who are under the scanner are the heavyweights and the job is more difficult than finding a needle in a haystack. So, Gary Oldman, a retired spy gets recalled by his former boss to help the agency in this matter.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Gary Oldman goes through tons of records and files to understand what really took place during his absence at the agency. He is surprised by what he gets to know during his investigation. He combs through all the information he has about Tinker(Toby Jones),Tailor(Colin Firth), Soldier(Ciaran Hinds), Poorman (David Dencick) . The story then is about how masterly Gary Oldman reaches to the root of the problem and unmasks the mole.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Actors are often judged on how they emote, how they can get through the scenes with finesse and style. The dialogues have to be delivered well but the real test is when there are minimal dialogues. Gary oldman is a fucking genius on that level.We see him at his best in this movie He has always been an amazing actor. But, this movie can convert last few haters left(if any).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">He is ably supported by the brilliant star cast and each one has put in amazing performances. The direction is immaculate and one can see how nicely the director narrates the story going back and forth it time and giving out plot details in form a jigsaw puzzle pieces. It is this aspect of the movie that makes it an awesome watch.The movie tries its best to do justice to the John Le Carre novel that it is based on.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This movie should be shown to budding actors as a guide to acting. It never goes over the top and neither does it make the proceedings way too confusing for the audience. Entertaining, interesting and subtle, 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' is a MUST watch.</div><div><br />
</div><div><br />

<br />
<br />
‘The Descendants’ is a story about modern day families. It is about how dysfunctional the families get and how clueless they are in their attempt to deal with the things that go wrong.<br />
<br />
George Clooney is a Hawaii based lawyer, whose wife, Patricia Hastie is in a hospital as a result of a boat accident. He now has to take care of his two daughters, Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller, who have been disconnected from their father due to his hectic professional life. While on this emotionally horrendous phase, Clooney learns that his wife was cheating him and was seeing someone else. Things get worse but he also has to decide with his cousins if they should be selling off their family land.<br />
<br />
On a level, it is emotionally draining. But, this movie doesn’t try to take a stand. It doesn’t preach ‘how to’. On top of that , the comic elements at every juncture of that journey that catch the audience by a pleasant surprise and gives instant chuckles. That is the best part of this smartly written movie. <br />
<br />
Alexander Payne does an excellent job at managing all the parallel tracks well. It could have gone wrong with these many sub plots. But, it doesn’t feel like that one bit. The dialogues are straight out of real lives and nothing seems dramatic at all.The slow pace of narration goes well with the theme of the movie but still does not make the viewer conscious about it.<br />
<br />
The performances by the lead actors are engrossing. Clooney does a remarkable job and doesn’t overdo his role even a wee bit. He has now done the ‘good acting’ part in many movies now but it still feels so amazing to watch him give that best shot at even regular sequences that would have gone unnoticed with many other actors. There are scenes in the movie that stay with you because of the brilliant performance by Clooney and the rest of the cast. I have to mention one scene that has got itself etched in my mind, the one where he makes an announcement to his wife’s friends about 'something important' at a party. As he bids good bye to everyone and turns around to get into his house again, there is a moment when it seems like everything else has vanished and he has nothing but his pain to deal with. He goes down on his knees and feels like he has lost a battle. The way that scene was done made me go ‘wow’ and at the same time created a ‘lump in the throat’ moment!<br />
<br />
Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller are very good in their roles. They try to match up to Clooney and do a pretty good job at that. I would be surprised if Clooney and Shailene fail to fetch at least a few big award nominations for their performances. It is movie like these that an actor would love to see in his career retrospection and rightly so.<br />
<br />
This movie is one of the best to have come out this year and has fetched/will continue to fetch tons of accolades. Don’t miss the better side of the Hollywood; watch ‘The Descendants’.<br />

<br />
<i>Mujhpe karam sarkar tera</i><br />
<i>Arz tujhe, kar de mujhe</i><br />
<i>Mujhse hi riha.</i><br />
<i>Ab mujhko bhi ho deedar mera</i><br />
<i>Karde mujhe mujhse hi riha</i><br />
<i>Mujhse hi riha.</i><br />
<br />
Thrown out of his house by his brothers, Ranbir takes shelter at a Mosque and blurts out these words mentioned above. He is struggling with many demons here, few inside of him and few others outside. But none bigger than his love.<br />
<br />
Imtiaz Ali has mastered the art of showing emotional conflicts of separated lovers. May be, he has a patent of such sorta movies. But, he excels every time he attempts it. He must have slipped in terms of totality in ‘Love Aaj Kal‘ but ’Socha Na Tha’ and to large extents ’Jab We Met’ were well made movies. Major share of accolades deservingly went to Imtiaz. He uses the same pattern of story in Rockstar albeit this time with a musical theme. <br />
<br />
Ranbir Kapoor is like just another common guy living in Delhi. He aspires to become a big music sensation one day but just fails to take it to the next level from being a random guy singing to his friends in his free time. He is constantly encouraged by Kumud Mishra , the college canteen guy to follow his dream and to try and pursue his musical aspirations. Mishra suggests that greatest artists have always had a pain to fuel their creative inner selves that turns them into the great artists.<br />
<br />
So, to turn into a musician driven by his pain, Ranbir ‘tries’ to get his heart broken by sheepishly confessing his fake love to the beautiful Nargis Fakhri. She expectedly despises him for doing this. Ranbir’s attempt doesn’t succeed in making him a failed lover as it was all based on fake feeling anyways. But, in a turn of events, Nargis befriends Ranbir and they become good friends in no time. Nargis’s wedding is only a month away and they both set out to fulfill her “wish list” that she won’t dare to think of, after getting married. Meanwhile, they get close to each other emotionally and unknowingly fall in love only to be shattered and longing for each other after her wedding. She moves to Prague with her husband and loses contact with Ranbir.<br />
<br />
He returns to his home after the wedding but unfortunate turn of events lead him to a fight with his family. He then has to depart from there and take shelter at a Dargah. He then tries to rediscover himself and later with the help of Kumud Mishra, Ranbir embarks on his musical career. But, being the simple person he is, he feels smothered in the world driven by music labels. <br />
<br />
A journalist, Aditi Rao trying to make a story out of Ranbir’s life inadvertently tells him about an opportunity to visit Prague through his music label and he grabs the chance at the first sight of it. He appears infront of Nargis with no notice and they then begin the second chapter of their ‘relationship’. With the realization that they are going on a path that is ethically inappropriate, they continue to defy their guilt and spend time together. But, Nargis pulls the curtain down by deciding that she can’t go any further with Ranbir on this. This makes a deeper wound in Ranbir and he gets into a web of disappointment and depression.<br />
<br />
<i>Tum logon ki iss duniya mein,</i><br />
<i>har kadam pe insaan galat.</i><br />
<i>Main sahi samjh ke jo bhi karoon tum kehte ho galat.</i><br />
<i>Main galat hoon toh phir kaun sahi. </i><br />
<i>Marzi se jeene ki bhi main </i><br />
<i>kya tum sab ko arzi doon ?</i><br />
<i>Matlab ki tum sabka mujhe pe mujhse bhi zyada haqq hai!!</i><br />
<br />
The external factors start causing problems to Ranbir and he in turn gets into a self destruction mode that threatens to finish his career before he could make a real mark for himself. Kumud Mishra tries his best to make him realise all this but Ranbir fails to see why he does things that are destroying him slowly.<br />
<br />
Nargis gets diagnosed with a serious medical condition and comes back to her parents in India. Situations force Ranbir and Nargis to be face-to-face again and this starts the final chapter of their love saga. But, things like always, do not go smoothly and we see how the Ranbir battles with these problems.<br />
<br />
<i>Kaagare, kaagare ,</i><br />
<i>More itni araj tose,</i><br />
<i>Chun chun khaayio maas.</i><br />
<i>Re jiya re, Khayyo naa tu naina more,</i><br />
<i>Khayyo naa tu naina more,</i><br />
<i>Hai piya ke Milan ki aas.</i><br />
<br />
For me, there are 5 true rockstars in this movie : Ranbir, Imtiaz , Rahman, Irshad Kamil and Mohit Chauhan. Rahman’s music had already created hysteria before the movie released. But, Imtiaz takes it a notch higher with brilliant picturisation. The music haunts the viewer and aided by mystical voice of Mohit and brilliant lyrics by Irshad, it turns out be an out of the world experience.<br />
<br />
Ranbir is on cheat-mode in this movie. Simply surreal. Whatta brilliant actor!! This one should be among his best performances and is almost as good as the one in Rocket Singh. K.Jo should now stop asking his guests from next season the question about who among Ranbir and Imran has a better future, if it wasn't obvious so far!! Just chuck it K.Jo.<br />
<br />
Imtiaz continues his fine run and displays mastery over his act here. He opts for a twisted screenplay and non-linear narration that simply take the movie from good to the next level. His unconventional approach in narrating a love story stands out and offers freshness in its style. The characters(apart from a few) are very well written and Imtiaz doesn’t get into creating too many sub plots that could have undue diversion of attention.<br />
<br />
The only problems I see with this movie are with the casting of Nargis and weak character played by Aditi Rao. The beautiful Nargis Fakhri tries hard but fails miserably as an actor. Imtiaz must have gone for charm over talent for her role but I don’t think that choice is totally justified. For me, things would have worked better if he had just swapped roles between Nargis and Aditi Rao!<br />
<br />
I don't really care much about the 'Free Tibet' image blurring controversy. Imtiaz had to agree to it as it would have been a huge risk taking on the Censor board few days before the release.Everything works from a monetary angle these days and it would be stupid to claim that director used this as a gimmick or chickened out under pressure. If someone has to be blamed for this then it has to be our esteemed censor board that does inane stuff like this.<br />
<br />
This movie may not be a master piece but is still one of the better movies delivered by our revered hindi movie industry. We may cause more harm to ourselves if we fail to appreciate the beauty of this movie. It is not an everyday thing for such a well made hindi movie excelling in almost all departments to be presented to the audience in this country.If we fail to see the good points here then maybe we deserve crap like Ready, Bodyguard and Double Dhamaal.<br />
<br />
<i>Jo bhi main kehna chahoon,</i><br />

There is a scene in which Gosling and Clooney meet in a hotel that’s shut for outsiders. They engage in a conversation where they both try to outdo each other and attempt at proving the other person wrong. It’s a simple scene but the director employs clever lines and great style in conveying the emotional turbulence that both the characters go through during that chat.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>Political thrillers are always interesting to watch. There is always a plot of people involved in betrayal, cheating and treachery. This movie also does that. But, where it stands out from the rest of the lot is in its realistic depiction of the behind the scenes events. It doesn’t get too dramatic at any stage nor does it try to over-sympathize with the characters. It is bold, hardnosed and to the point. </div><div><br />
</div><div>The story revolves around the presidential campaign of George Clooney which is ably lead by Philip Seymour Hoffman as his chief campaign manager, Ryan Gosling who is Hoffman’s assistant and their team. Paul Giamatti, who is the chief campaign manager of the opponent camp tries to entice Gosling into working for them and pushes him into turmoil. Principles and ambitions clash with each other but Gosling prefers to stay with Clooney instead of joining the opposition camp. But, unknowingly this event and another critical one (a major spoiler) lead into sequences that threaten to derail the whole presidential campaign of Clooney and career aspirations of Gosling. The story then revolves around these lead characters to show how they battle tough situations trying to come out clean and successful.</div><div><br />
</div><div>This movie belongs to Ryan Gosling. This is his 3rd movie this year after Drive and Crazy, Stupid, Love. He continues to try different genres but still emerges unscathed by the burden of intense characters and difficult scripts. He is truly one of the best ‘actors’ around and has again done one hell of a job. It was an uphill task for him to perform alongside movie heavyweights like Clooney, Hoffman and Giamatti. But, Gosling works like magic. He takes the centre stage with utmost ease and carries the movie forward with his brilliant performance.</div><div><br />
</div><div>George Clooney is impressive as a director. He takes a backseat in terms of screen time and lets the story unfold from Gosling’s point of view. Clooney’s control over the narration is amazing and he doesn’t lose the grip over the story at any point in time. The performances are duly enhanced by smart dialogues and they add a punch to the already impressive package.</div><div><br />
</div><div>This movie may not appeal to everyone because of its pace and the style of film making. But, it’s a definite watch for every moviegoer. Miss it at your own risk as ‘The Ides of March’ is mesmerizing.</div></div>Movie Hystericshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04848803443098245712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-291768299546873622.post-57552022614135042342011-10-07T12:00:00.000+05:302011-10-07T12:00:01.900+05:30Moneyball - Engaging!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPYidY5g-YVv-xyF5BRflJWgXNQj8mzmk30uisij9nkGcfAwt0iu9cL_V4iQiQ2kWq2rqnWi2yF0GhcquCzDJshU-XUYNgZJhJx-RK3neItXDlsIsNOpaT9dWYLW4WnhNGjUnhSfFJxzs/s1600/moneyball-DF-02636r-560x365.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPYidY5g-YVv-xyF5BRflJWgXNQj8mzmk30uisij9nkGcfAwt0iu9cL_V4iQiQ2kWq2rqnWi2yF0GhcquCzDJshU-XUYNgZJhJx-RK3neItXDlsIsNOpaT9dWYLW4WnhNGjUnhSfFJxzs/s320/moneyball-DF-02636r-560x365.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Making movies about true events from the sports world is one of the toughest jobs in movie industry. The audience get associated with the movie easily and its then a big gamble from the movie maker's point of view. The passion towards the sport would reflect in the opinion towards the movie and it will get easily discarded by the audience if the maker keeps even one wrong step.<br />
<br />
Moneyball works very well given all the gambles it has to play with. It is a simple story told beautifully! <br />
<br />
Moneyball talks about the baseball managerial career of Billy Jeane(Brad Pitt). He is incharge of a club that has been mediocre in recent past and its upto Billy to revive the fate of the club. In his pursuit of revival, he asks a young,bright economics graduate Peter Brand(Jonah Hill) to assist him. They both team up and try to "replace transfer of popular players" approach with that of statistical computation of cheaper but good players. They face obvious opposition from the core group of advisors and the coach Art Howe(Philip Seymour Hoffman). But, they relentlessly try to implement their approach and the story is then about how Pitt and Hill try to take the club to pinnacle of success.<br />
<br />
The main story track is interlaced with two sub plots. One of Billy Jeane's career as player when he got spotted by a club in his teens. Another story track is that of his current personal life. He is a divorcee and gets to meet his daughter every now and then. Director focusses on how Billy coped with his personal conflicts and devils of past to divert all his angst into his baseball job.<br />
<br />
The narration basically is made up of extended scenes consisting long conversations. These conversations are made very engaging and interesting by the dialogues that have been written in a clever way. Not once does the pace drop drastically to make the viewer uncomfortable or bored.<br />
<br />
Although the story in itself is good and inspiring but its the performances of Pitt, Hill and Hoffman that takes the movie to greater heights. This can be considered as one of their best performances of all time.<br />
<br />
The interaction between Pitt and his daughter are very catchy. The sequences are written and executed beautifully. Brad Pitt's internal turmoil has been portrayed very well and the director shows how good he is at his craft.<br />
<br />
This movie was touted as Brad Pitt's shot at the Oscars. I'm not sure if he'll be the leading contender but I'm certain that the academy will reward him with a nomination at least. This is more than a wish than a prediction.<br />
<br />
Its a very good movie and definitely deserves all the accolades. Watch it!<br />

<br />
We've watched a lot of heist movies. We've also watched many 'heist gone wrong' movies. But, this one is not quite like the ones we've watched before.<br />
<br />
DRIVE is a movie about Ryan Gosling who works as a movie stunt man, car mechanic at a garage and a wheelman helping the burglars getaway from the scene of crime. He leads a lonely life and gets sucked into his neighbour Carrey Mulligan's life when he meets her by chance. She is a married woman with a kid and is waiting for her husband to be released from Prison. Gosling forms an emotional bond with Mulligan and her kid and becomes part of their lives. Mulligan's husband gets out of jail and in interesting circumstances gets along with Gosling for a heist. But, this heist goes wrong and Gosling falls into a web of dangerous backlash from the mob and this gets intertwined with his relationship with Mulligan and her kid. The story is then about how he manages to break all the shackles.<br />
<br />
Its a simple story with no great layered approach to the narration. But, its the treatment to this story by the director Nicholas Wending Refn that makes this movie go from good to brilliant. Ryan Gosling is mindblowing in his understated and subtle performance. His interactions wih Mulligan are the highlights of the movie. Through out the movie, director goes for fewer dialogues than what would have seemed adequate. He lets the scenes unfold using clever pauses and great background score. He also loads confrontation scenes with violence and doesn't shy away from showing the brutal side of the leading character.<br />
<br />
I would be pleased to see Gosling fetching an oscar nomination for his performance but the chances are next to none going by the genre and the tone of the movie. Academy prefers to stay away from this kinda movie.<br />
<br />
Fast paced thrillers are ruling the roost these days but its a slow paced, stylish and effortless movie like this one that comes across like a breath of fresh air. Its not your regular edge-of-the-seat thriller but it is more in the space of a Mulholland Drive in which there is no visible urgency for the story to unfold.<br />
<br />
Watch this movie and be sure to get treated with this stylish side of Hollywood that entices the audience of better movies in days of mindless, 'heavily loaded with routine action' and cliches days!<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> Director Steven Soderbergh has an impressive CV. What stands out is his audacity to try different genres and subjects in every new project of his. Good directors often do that.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This time around he has delivered a movie on an epidemic that creates mass hysteria. Its a unique subject material and Soderbergh is more than capable of doing a good job at it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The story revolves around how the people and global health organisations cope with an epidemic that threatens to wipe out a major chunk of the population on this planet. The movie dwells into psyche of common people and at the same time gives us the picture of how intelligence agencies and government health agencies react to this uncontrollable phenomenon.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">To garner public attention, director has casted hollywood heavyweights like Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Marion Cottilard, Kate Winslet and Laurence Fishburne. But, the director doesn't get startstruck and ensures that he does not give more attention to any character more than what the story dictates. Each of these stars have done a good job at what they have been asked to do.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This movie works because of various things. For me, the best aspects were the narration, camera work and background score. Camera lingers on certain objects every now and then to magnify the effect that object would hold on the spreading of the epidemic. Director uses this effect among others to create a thriller out of a story of how a disease takes lives and baffles everyone.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The first and last 10 mins of the movie have fewer dialogues and are brilliantly executed.Director plays with the pace of the story telling almost faultlessly.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The only part of the movie that could have been better is the story track of Jude Law for the first half of the movie and kinda pull the intensity down. But, director makes it up but by adding extra meat to that track and giving it an important place in the narration.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Watch this movie for its unconventional take on a subject that itself has not been tried many times.Watch it for stars who turn into mere characters. Watch it to know how the 'controlling groups' of the society go about their affairs in situations like this.Watch it to witness how common people like us become hooligans for the sake of survival.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuu5pZOn8CKXD4wYfIzcR8EMrh_BV9oCOyVcaNrOaeT-Jk67QPdqBUfvxRvGYAtq2CHPLkcCBSiyXVrHJQSne-Io0IGXgEV6Cs0R3sASCHeRzhd_u3y0y-YOyCaYRdaOR9yPDsaRJHRNU/s1600/4.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuu5pZOn8CKXD4wYfIzcR8EMrh_BV9oCOyVcaNrOaeT-Jk67QPdqBUfvxRvGYAtq2CHPLkcCBSiyXVrHJQSne-Io0IGXgEV6Cs0R3sASCHeRzhd_u3y0y-YOyCaYRdaOR9yPDsaRJHRNU/s1600/4.PNG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> I think its the imperative that horror movies should contain few horror elements that can give some 'scary' moments to the audience and make the movie worth watching. This movie fails miserably at that.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is a story of a kid(Bailee Madison) who moves into her father's(Guy Pearce) house battered by distancing herself from her mother. She also has to adapt living with a step mother(Katie Holmes) at the same time.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The mansion they live in has an unpleasant past attached and the kid discovers those elements and the story is then about how those elements affect the family and their efforts in coming out of this situation.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The story unfolds at a leisurely pace and the director has good hold on the proceedings. He has been let down by a weak script and forced to work in a limited space.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The best parts of the movie are the ones that show the uncomfortable interaction between Bailee and Katie. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">There are no good reasons for me to recommend this movie to anyone. Give it a miss and you won't be sad about doing so!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Every time a Final destination movie releases, it divides the audience into 2 groups - the ones who don't mind watching newer ways of getting killed and others who don't!<br />
<br />
I skipped watching FD 4 because I knew that it would be same old shit and wouldn't really excite me as an audience. I wasn't wrong in that, based on what I heard from my friends.<br />
<br />
FD 5 gets unwrapped in the similar structure as the earlier movies. A group of co-workers set out on an outing in a bus. They have to pass through a bridge that is under construction. A central character gets a premonition about a tragedy on that bridge and he then saves the lives of his colleagues from it.<br />
<br />
Death now has to strike back and take lives of these people and it does it in its own style by coming up with hilarious ways of killing them.<br />
<br />
Same old shit!<br />
<br />
3D effects were average and were too desperate. Not the best effort, I must say. The plot was as thin as it could ever be and nothing new was offered.<br />
<br />
I still can't figure it out as to what made me watch FD 5 in theatre. Was it the trailer ? 3D ? a hope that it would be better this time ? Don't know! I'll just stop thinking about it.<br />
<br />
All in all, a movie worth watching if one is a fan of the franchisee. A definite miss otherwise!<br />

<div><br />
</div><div> It was an ambitious attempt by Marvel studios to make movies about each of their Avengers superheroes and then culminate in a grand movie putting all these fellas on the same stage. Iron Man started it and impressed the audience and critics instantly. Iron Man 2 disappointed in comparison but still kept the franchisee going. Thor was the first big release of Marvel this summer and it made an honest attempt to introduce the character and made its mark. <br />
<br />
So, the stage was set for the final superhero launch before the big Avengers movie. Here is Captain America, the first Avenger. He is the first member of the Superhero team put together by S.H.I.E.L.D. </div><div><br />
</div><div>The story revolves around Chris Evans(Steve Rogers/Captain America) who wants to join the military and contribute his bit in helping the nation to win the World War 2. But, his lean and small built doesn’t give him a great chance in making his dream come true. But, his honesty, goodness and determination impress the right people and he gets chosen for a secret project of the military. This project involves making a normal person gain super-humanly powers by undergoing a scientific experiment. The experiment works and lean,weak Steve Rogers becomes a strong, tall Captain America. The story is then about how Captain America fights against Hugo Weaving(Johann Schmidt/Red Skull) , a nazi with intentions of taking control of the whole world. </div><div><br />
The story is simple and narrated very well. The script is potent enough to keep the momentum up for most of the parts. But, its the dialogue that takes the cake. The lines are clever and induce smiles every now and then.The director Joe Johnston works with a script that ensures the proceedings are entertaining and there are very few '<i>could have been avoided</i>' moments.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Performances by all the leading actors and supporting characters is very good. Tommy Lee Jones stands out with his quirky lines. Hayley Atwell does justice to her role of a stern military commander and few moments when she turns into love interest of Chris Evans. Hugo Weaving makes his bad guy performance stand head to head with the saviour's. </div><div><br />
</div><div>Chris Evans looks every bit of Captain America. He doesn't look out of sorts and seems like he was destined to play this role one day. He does well as the bullied and battered Steve Rogers and equally well as dominating and heroic Cap America.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Only problems I see with this movie are that it could have been shorter by chopping off few scenes. Also, the ending seemed a bit dull and let the momentum down. It wasn't a fitting climax to what the story played out till then. But, what followed the climax did bring a smile back.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Captain America will team up with Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Hawk Eye to fight against the baddies!! Marvel now has a huge opportunity in hand with the big Avengers movie next summer. Lets hope that they don't get star struck by putting so many superheroes and superstars on the same screen.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Captain America has few glitches but is surely entertaining through out. Go and get introduced to the first avenger! Watch it!</div><div><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;">The year was 2001 and the movie was Dil Chahta Hai. It spoke about male bonding like not many other movies had attempted before. The movie did not go on to become a box office hit but it gained a cult following for all the break-the-cliches attempts it made. Countless movies since then have tried to implement the same logic and have failed dismally. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Back to the present day, another movie from the same production house using the same concept of male bonding between 3 friends. Just that this time, they are on a road trip and in the beautiful country of Spain instead of homely beaches of Goa.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">So, is this movie a remake or a sequel or ‘insert a similar word here’ of DCH ? No, sorry to disappoint everyone but it isn’t. The plot could sound similar but that’s where the comparison should end. ZNMD commands its own space and should in no way be neglected for its merits because of few similarities with DCH.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">ZNMD is a story of three friends Abhay, Hritik and Farhan who set out on a bachelor road trip being a few months away from Abhay’s marriage with Kalki. They meet Katrina on their journey and she becomes part of their gang for the rest of it. Each of the lead characters have their inner turmoil to overcome that they are reminded at every step of the journey and the story is then about how they deal with those issues.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">So, is this a good enough plot to hold the viewers’ attention for 2.5 hours ? Well, not quite. But then the movie packs enough punch in the treatment and narration. Zoya Akhtar makes most of the script written by herself and Reema Kagti. She shows tremendous control over the pacing of the movie for most of it. She ensures that none of characters emerge shallow enough to be discarded as artificial. The treatment is fresh and doesn’t abide by the clichés. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">What makes the ride more enjoyable are the dialogues by Farhan that are top notch. The dialogues seem real and appear straight out of our daily conversations albeit with more humour. Give me realistic humour and dialogues of ZNMD over so called ‘closer-to-life’ dialogues in Delhi Belly, any day!!</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">The road trip introduces us to the beautiful locales of Spain that we may have not seen in many movies before. The camera work is very good and doesn’t go overboard trying to highlight the locales. <br />
<br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Music is the lowest point for me in this movie. Apart from Senorita, there are not many songs that remain etched in our minds. SEL have done a better job than few of their recent attempts but still seem totally lost when compared to their initial promise. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">I would have wanted to see more of Abhay in the important sequences of the movie. Farhan and Hritik loom large and this in a sense pushes Abhay back which means that the director has definitely not made most of his talent. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">This movie dares to push the boundaries of mainstream cinema and attempts at covering all the emotional aspects of the characters without making it a regular boring drama. It succeeds in what it tried to convey and I’m pretty sure that the audience gets the point. Leave the past behind, make most of today and live for the moment. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara!!</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Not every day affair this when a movie shocks, surprises and disappoints all in a span of 100 odd minutes. But, this movie did that and how!</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Delhi Belly is a common term for what wikipedia calls as ‘Traveler's diarrhea’. So, one of our main characters Kunal Roy Kapoor, a photo journalist is suffering from this condition. His roommates are Vir Das, a cartoonist and Imran Khan, a journalist. The basic plot involves these 3 guys getting intertwined with a local gang chasing an item that contains diamonds worth crores. The trio gets stuck in a deep mess and the story is about how they manage to find their way out of it.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">The story is not fresh but the treatment is. A real highlight of this movie is the free flowing profanity filled dialogue. I don’t remember a mainstream movie that could boast of such dialogues. This will make many people identify the characters as real and few others may think that it is overdone. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">So, is this movie worthy enough to be given cult status? Not quite. I didn’t really find the basic plot gripping enough. The humour was inconsistent and wasn’t really laugh inducing in many of the places. But, I must say that those patches with good humour are really good. Few sequences are hilarious like the opening ones and the one where the burkha clad trio visits the jeweler to get their stuff back.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">I still can’t get convinced about Imran’s acting. He has the meatiest role but fails to impress when compared to the other two lead characters. Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor would have really made most out of better roles. They still do a brilliant job at what they have been asked to do. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Apart from these two, its Vijay Raaz and Poorna Jagannathan who impress the most. Vijay Raaz should get more roles of these types and directors should stop wasting his talent in mindless movies. Poorna is fresh and she should now shift base to Mumbai from Hollywood as she is sure to get more offers after this performance. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Why on earth was Shenaz Treasury(wala ?!) needed in the plot ? That whole sub plot of Imran getting engaged to Shenaz was the most boring part of the movie and could have been handled differently. Also, Vir Das’s love story was under cooked. That could have been given 10-15 minutes more and for sure it wouldn’t have been bad.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">The songs have been used fairly well. Its good to see that there are no forced song sequences though more than couple of songs had caught up well with the audience. These songs are used in the background and go well with the narrative.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">I think the ploy of using too much of profanity has worked for the makers. I noticed that the audience enjoyed seeing the main characters foul mouthing so much. But, the movie should have had more to it than just the shock/surprise inducing dialogues.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">I wouldn't be surprised if this movie is considered one of the better movies this year.But, it would make me cringe if its mentioned in the same breath as 'Stanley Ka Dabba' and 'Dhobi Ghat'. This movie is more of a marketing triumph for Aamir Khan than a hit based on its content. So, that’s how it should be treated.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">All in all, it is an average movie with few good sequences and over the top profanity through out. Different than most of the other movies these days but not really better. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg7ETQ1aihhyU61wws79_WiMBAiT1-rxft4urljTks0fNvCzrYqxWInbhyphenhyphen9LqhhZyfwyyY1PTTeAM8Or7n2F__tQKj8woOqO-hawkEpraOBPiqi4LEIvMiq6XTFiM63Sx5BqA0Utnw4hk/s1600/star_series.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg7ETQ1aihhyU61wws79_WiMBAiT1-rxft4urljTks0fNvCzrYqxWInbhyphenhyphen9LqhhZyfwyyY1PTTeAM8Or7n2F__tQKj8woOqO-hawkEpraOBPiqi4LEIvMiq6XTFiM63Sx5BqA0Utnw4hk/s1600/star_series.PNG" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
